 Lapel (lavalier) mics clip to clothing for discretion, ideal for interviews/podcasts, while head-worn mics sit on or over the ear for consistent voice pickup, great for active presenters/performers; both offer hands-free operation, but headworn mics generally provide clearer, more stable audio by staying closer to the mouth, minimizing clothing noise, though lavs offer maximum stealth for film/TV.
